Microwave welding of plastics is based on the heating of the material by electromagnetic irradiation in the microwave frequency range. The physical interactions between the material and the electromagnetic radiation cause the material to melt and the parts are welded together. A distinction is made here between direct and indirect microwave welding. The process offers numerous advantages, e.g. short process and set-up times as no heating and cooling phases are necessary, as well as short heating times and low energy requirement with high efficiency.
Materials:
Direct microwave welding: ABS, PA, PET, PVDF, POM, PEEK;
Indirect microwave welding: PP, PE, PTFE
