Plastic tank filler necks offer the advantage compared with metal tubes that they can also be manufactured in different versions. GEIGER Automotive works precisely to the customer’s specifications – in close cooperation with the tank manufacturers. The prototypes and specimens are all produced in-house at GEIGER Automotive and the desired, individually modified tank filler neck can be supplied at short notice for installation and tank filling trials.

Field of application and function

• Allows the fuel tank to be filled with fuel.
• Provides the connection between filling opening and tank.
• Performs the integrated venting function of the fuel tank that ensures the proper function both during tank filling and during vehicle operation.

Application conditions and specific demands

• Ensures that fuel tanks can be filled with all the fuel types, trigger pistols, filling rates and under all climatic conditions worldwide.
• Prevents slopping back of fuel when releasing the pistol trigger.
• Crash-proof and fireproof.
• Satisfies all the emissions specifications for Europe and the USA (LEVII).
• Electrically conductive to prevent static charges during fuelling and hence ignition of the fuel/air mixture.
• Venting takes place at the highest point of the fuel tank system.
• This venting point is prevented from leaking by a valve for the event that the vehicle should roll over.
• An upline bubble section removes fuel droplets from the exhaust air.

Materials

• The pipe wall is made of seven different material layers.
• The base material is high-density polyethylene (HDPE); in different versions the outer sheath, reclaim and electrically conductive layer are made of this material.
• The inner barrier layer of EVOH is fastened to the surrounding HDPE layers by coupling agent layers.
• The reclaim layer consists of reground head ends cut off from the pipes after removal from the blow mould. This improves the material yield.
