A thermostat is a temperature controller that permits a higher or lower flow rate through a valve by means of mechanical or electronic circuits, depending on the ambient temperature, and thus regulates e.g. the heating and cooling circuit. GEIGER Automotive produces housings for the mounting and protection of these instruments.

Field of application and function

• Maintaining a constant operating temperature.
• Shortening the heating-up time.
• Controlling and distributing coolant flows.

Application conditions and specific demands

• The operating medium is coolant (water/glycol mixture).
• Has to withstand ambient temperatures between – 40° C and +125° C, and coolant temperatures between – 40° C and max. +143° C.
• Has to withstand pressures up to 2.5 bar.
• Has to remain leak-tight over the whole over the service life of the vehicle and at all temperatures and pressure changes.

Materials

• Is made of polyphenylene sulphide (PPS), glass fibre-reinforced polyamide (PA).
